The January-April Class List Is Now Ready!

At Stony Creek Bead, we are big believers in learning the basics, and learning them well.  After all - if you are struggling with the basics, it is hard to play and be creative.  For that reason, we are offering the Basic Stringing and Wrapped Loop techniques at least once a month.

As you read the class descriptions, please take note of any prerequisites that may be listed.  If none are listed, then assume you can join in no matter what your skill level is.  If you are unsure of a class and the techniques used, please ask and we can go over what is involved.  We want to make sure that you have a fun and successful class!

You Are Running Out Of Time

But, do not worry-- we have a lot of these holiday earrings made up and ready to go.  Yes, you can say that you made them (we won't tell).

All of these (and more) are only $8.50 per pair.

Something to Remember Her By

Many of you have asked, and yes, we still have some of Lil’s finished bracelets and earrings for sale.

We will have them available until the end of the month and then we need to send them back to her husband.

Second Class Just Added

We just added a second session for the White Glacier Earrings! Both classes will be held on Saturday, December 8th. There are spots open in both sessions, so call to sign up for either the 10:30 am class or the 2 pm class. 734.544.0904.

While meeting with Liz about this second class, she suggested that we show you some other option of beads you can use in her design. Here are just a few.

Something to think about—pictured is an earring, but why not make this into a pendant? Hmmm… the possibilities!

Show off and win!

Update- 7/8/12- Congratulations to Amanda Holm, winner of our Facebook drawing.  More opportunities to win are coming!

We want to see your best beadwork.  Post a picture of your best work onto our Facebook page by July 8, 2012.  (One per person, please.)  Everyone who posts their work will be entered to win a pair of tickets to the 20th Anniversary Gala Event & Dinner for the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild ($40 value).

Members of two local guilds - the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild, and Glass Act, the Southeastern Michigan Glass Beadmakers Guild – have teamed up (one from each Guild) to create amazing pieces of jewelry, wearable art, or other decorative art.

The chosen theme for the Synergy Collaboration is “Yeah… Detroit. So Bead It!”  The artists were asked to create a piece of art that symbolizes Detroit to them personally.  Members from both of these guilds are some of the most talented artists in the area, so it should be a wonderful show.

The finished pieces will be on display at the City Gallery in the William M. Costick Activities Center in Farmington Hills, which is where the Gala Event will take place on October 6, 2012.

Tickets for the 20th Anniversary Gala event are now available for purchase at our store.

One final note:  Your privacy settings on facebook will dictate who gets to see your beaded artwork!

Check Out The New Stringing Magazine

The new Stringing Magazine has just arrived.  On page 41 (project number 17) is a bracelet by Erin Siegel, which features raku beads by our very own Duane Collins!

It just so happens that we just got in a new shipment of Duane’s amazing beads.  This shipment included more of the popular owl pendants, new designs/shapes of beads, and single beads (to mix and match in your designs).  So, if you wanted to make the project in the stringing magazine, now is the perfect time to select beads.

Apollo is back

We have a group of Toho beads that is called the Apollo line.  What makes this line unique is that part of every bead is covered in copper.  While the Apollo line comes in several colors, the turquoise is the most popular (and the hardest to order from our supplier).

We have the turquoise Apollo beads (size 11, 8, and 6) back in stock.  Now, for the first time, we also have them in the 1.5 and 4 mm cubes!  Quantities are limited, so come in soon for yours.

Humblebeads Art Bead Show & Book Signing
Saturday, April 21      10 am – 4 pm

Bead artist and author Heather Powers will be selling her latest beads at Stony Creek Bead on April 21st.

Heather will be signing copies of her book, Jewelry Designs from Nature.  If you already have this book, you know how great it is.  If not, then we will have copies for you to purchase.  Heather’s book has a collection of 32 projects – necklaces, bracelets, and earrings – that combine easy jewelry-making techniques with spectacular components and artisan-made beads.  You will learn how small details can elevate a design from ‘simple’ to ‘striking!

Ooo... Raku!

We are now carrying raku by Michigan artist, Duane Collins.  Due to the reflective nature of the finish on this type of pottery, the attached picture does not show how beautiful these pieces really are.  Take my word for it, they are amazing!  Come in to take a look for yourself.

Hot New Item—Silk Ribbon

Our silk, which is hand-dyed in the USA, comes in a huge variety of colors and finishes.  How do you use it?  Well…

Stephanie slid on pewter and lampwork beads (by Buckaroo Beads), wrapped it around her wrist and tied it in a knot.

Lori (Shimmery Jewelry) used them as a tie on her basic stringing necklace.

Those are just two ideas.  What will you do with them?

Friday, March 23, 2012

New Crystal Clay Ideas

Crystal Cuff- we covered a brass cuff in the dark purple Crystal Clay then layered on the crystals. We carry several different widths, so you could play with more complicated designs if you wanted to.

Key- Jenn covered her house key in the dark purple, layered in the crystals, and then brushed the entire surface with mica powder.  How fun is that?  She has carried the key around for a while now and it shows no sign of wear & tear.

Look For Us In Bead & Button

Jenn's Fuchsia Necklace is in the "Your Work" section of Bead & Button.  (Page 19 in the April, 2012, issue).  She is honored to share the page with Susan Matych-Hager (Hager Studios) and her partner Kathy Petersen.

If you love Jenn's fuchsias, we are having an earring class on how to make them on Saturday, March 31 at 10:30.  Space is limited, so please sign up ahead of time.

Happy Beading!

A few of you have commented that, when you click on the class list link, Google Docs asks you to sign in. It appears to be asking only those of you with account to do so, everyone else bypasses this screen.

So, if you click on the link and it asks for a password, please enter your account information. After that, the class list should pop right up.

If it still does not, then send us an e-mail and I will send it to you in an adobe file.

Thank you to Judy K for the heads up!
